Rated "A"

are there any A(adult) rated games? because I sure havent seen any..

I guess the rating system is different over here, but games like BMXXX and a few other would probably have that rating. Too bad they are invariably shit games.

True. I saw a vid for BMXXX and was sorely disappointed. They will never make a good game with an "A" rating. For one there wouldn't be a very big market for it and for 2, the company that would make it wouldn't have the financial backing of the big game companies. The bigger companies won't bother to make an "A" game for fear of ruining their reputation.

So we may see one, but it will be shit.

In new zealand we had a game called 'something to do with max' like Max Payne (but i think that one was legal) something like that was banned from the country

Manhunt 2 maybe? I know it was banned in the UK and here in America the makers were forced to cut some shit out to lower the rating.

Indeed. I was gonna mention the fact that the game was cut. No major retailer will carry an A rating. Which makes it even more useless to the video game biz, than the NC-17 is to the movie biz.

Most retailers won't carry a rated "A" game so there is very little incentive for game companies to make those games especially if they're for one of the big three consoles.

AO rating is suicide for companies pushing a game out with that rating. There is only one recognized AO rated game that was reviewed. It was reviewed by Game Informer, I am unsure about any other magazine publications, but it came back out I think in 2004.

This game was called Singles:Flirt Up Your Life

It was an abomination. In fact, for it to be sold in stores it went to a tamer M-rating, while you can buy the AO version online. But from reviews and commonsense, this game sucked big time. Failed!!

It was basically a pervy knockoff of The Sims. Whoever bought this game I feel so sorry for on multiple levels. Stupid, stupid people.

After a rental I had to buy Leisure Suit Larry. Was it embarrassing renting it? Yes. Was it hard to find? Yes, pawn shop couple weeks later. It was worth it, very silly game, don't know the rating but my girlfriend at the time thought I was a pig. Funny content although not particularly difficult in any way, the console I played it on was XBox and I don't know if it was available for other systems.

Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude was M-rated. Banned in Australia (then again, what game past T-rating isn't banned down there?) and not all that big of a hit over here in the States. Though, it has a strong following (and this is how old the series is) all the way from the good ol' NES days.

Games now are at the time where frontal nudity is A-OK! Rear end nudity, is good to go. In fact, remember Fear Effect 2 back on the PlayStation? Yeah. Pretty suggestive considering the time when that game came out.

Also, I recall in Final Fantasy VII Cid saying "Shit" at the end when everything is falling apart and whatnot.

But adults games have been around since the NES days of gaming. Much more during the NES days than they are now. But, it is just such a suicide move to make AO (Adults Only) game considering most stores will not carry it, nor most countries. Just a death wish to stamp on AO!

There are more PC based adult games than console games. But that is due to the fact they are bought online through their independent publishers/studios, selling markets (Amazon, Ebay). Very, very rarely is a mainstream game going to be AO. In this case, Indigo Prophecy being on the list. Then again it is Director's Cut; once again, can only be bought online.

As far as AO games being sold in stores, not happening anytime soon. They are blacklisted from too many huge retailers to the point they will not make the money back with what they put into making the game. It is as if the game is in Syberia distributed from a hut, no one is going to hear about it or know anything at all regarding it.

Look at the Sexy Beach series.

GTA: San Andreas is back to M-rating. The AO rate editions (which are hard to find considering the only way to find them is online) are nothing but valuable keepsakes during an otherwise blown out of proportion witch hunt towards Rockstar. Just because it says AO it skyrockets the value of that particular edition of the game. Especially since very few are out there before they went from AO back to M-rated.

PC games are lot different from the console games in the Adult Only area. Look at Max Payne 2 game for PC; thanks to mods, technically, the game should be considered AO given if you apply the Mod you run around naked whilst playing as Mona in the game. The Sims series can go straight from T-rated to M-rated with all the Mods out there for that game! Big time! Tomb Raider 2 PC game had the nude mod (which, back then, people thought it was a code and hit every damn key in every possible way to unlock it! Hah) and was one of the first to garner the attention given Lara is the first of video game heroines here in America, especially to escalate as much popularity as she has.

Mods go back way back to the old NES days. In fact, some NES games were actually made for adults and sold out in stores! Of course, that was before the ESRB, but they were sold and they are still out there.

Thing is, official AO games are not around! They will not be made anytime soon to be sold in stores such as Best Buy, EB, GameStop. M-rating continues to push the boundaries as time goes on. Restrictions become all the more lenient. Look at an old M-rated PlayStation game then a PlayStation 2 game and a M-rated game of today! Nowadays, you get to see highly detailed and graphical glory of blood and guts! Still M-rated. AO, I honestly do not understand why that rating is still around!
